    Trade deficit in Morocco grows by 13.1pct in Jan-May period

    (MENAFN) Morocco's trade deficit increased 13.1 percent to USD8.03bn in the Jan-May period of this year compared with a year earlier, driven by increased imports.

    Additionally, the trade gap was more than 69.45bn dirhams amid the same period of 2016, as energy imports grew 42.7 percent to 28.25bn dirhams.

    Moreover, total exports increased 5.3 percent from a year earlier to 103.31bn dirhams, supported by a 7.9 percent increase in phosphate exports at 17.41bn dirhams.

    However, tourism receipts dropped 5.8 percent, while remittances from the 4.5mn Moroccans who lived abroad increased 0.2 percent to 24.33bn dirhams.
