Trade deficit in Tunisia grows by 22pct in Jan-Aug this year

(MENAFN) The trade deficit increased in the Jan-Aug period of this year by 22 percent compared with the same period of 2016 to reach USD4.15bn.

Furthermore, the growing trade deficit is one of the major issues facing the government of Prime Minister and eroded Tunisia's foreign currency reserves.

Meanwhile, imports in the cited period of the year jumped 19.3 percent to 31.995bn dinars, while exports rose by 18 percent to 21.927bn dinars.

In the past four months, the country imposed restrictions on importing some goods to curb its increasing trade deficit and protect foreign reserves.
