Total fish production in Oman grows by 5.4pct

(MENAFN) Oman's whole fish production increased by 5.4 percent to 270.863 tons in 2016, from 257.001 tons in 2015, due to robust growth in the catch of traditional fishermen.

Additionally, the contribution of the traditional sector increased to 5.2 percent to 267.981 tons in 2016, up from 254.767 tons in the previous year.

Accordingly, the Sultanate's fish catch, involving production amid aquaculture, is projected to double to reach 500.000 tons per annum by 2020.

Meanwhile, the fisheries sector is one of the important sectors in spreading sources of national income, making job chances and confirming high value-added products.
