Air Arabia launches 1st flight to Erbil after ban lifting

(MENAFN) As it launched a flight to the capital of Iraqi Kurdistan from Sharjah, Middle East budget carrier Air Arabia has resumed its flights to Erbil.

There will be two flights per week; namely on Monday and Friday, increasing to three by June, Al Bayan newspaper reported, citing the Dubai-listed airline which resumed its flights to the Iraqi Kurdistan's capital on Friday, 23 March.

Flydubai and other airline firms resumed their flights to and from Kurdistan after the travel ban was lifted from Erbil and Sulaimaniyah airports.

Iraq's federal government imposed the international flight ban on Sep. 29 as retaliation for the Kurdistan Region"s independence referendum held four days earlier, which saw 93% of the population voting for secession from Iraq.

Air Arabia previously said that its subsidiary Air Arabia Egypt launched a destination to Jeddah-based King Abdulaziz International Airport (KAIA) from Egypt's Sohag International Airport, starting from 20 March.
