Google to begin free journalism training in MENA

(MENAFN) The Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region was confirmed to be hosting 4,000 journalists for free training as part of the Google News Initiative.

The news was announced during the Arab Media Forum by a senior Google official, as he explained the move to be aimed at journalists to receive assistance in growing their abilities in areas that include editing, research and writing.

Head of Google News Initiative Matt Cooke declared "we have trained more than 94,000 journalists all over the world, except the MENA region where we see a gap. I am pleased to inform you that we have partnered with IJNET to train 4,000 journalists across the region in the next 12 months."

He then revealed "we will start the training process from Dubai, UAE next month and then progressively include media professionals from Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Jordan, Lebanon and Tunisia. The journalists will get free training and they can start registering online through Google Media Lab to benefit from the programme."
