Sudan to issue international Islamic bonds at USD1bn

(MENAFN) Sudan was revealed to be considering a sale of its international Islamic bonds (sukuk) for almost USD1 billion, aiming to finance the 2018 budget.

The plan comes after the country was halted majorly from global funding over the years as a result of US sanctions that were suspended earlier in October.

Speaking to Reuters, Finance Minister Mohamed Othman Rukabi declared "the Sudanese government will issue a sukuk (worth) nearly 1 billion dollars for the first time this year."

"It will be late this year to finance the 2018 budget," he revealed, adding "in Sudan we started already with local sukuk but it will be the first time that will issue sukuk in the international market."
