    Iran initiates USD6.8m water desalination plants

    (MENAFN) EghtesadOnline reported Iran to have commenced a water desalination plant in northeastern Iran.

    Energy Minister Reza Ardekanian reportedly stated "the private sector invested some 6.8 million U.S. dollars in the project, which will alleviate the shortage of potable water in the cities of Bandar Torkaman and Gomishan (in Golestan Province)."

    The plant, covering a capacity of treating 10,000 cubic meters of saltwater daily, was also confirmed by the minister to be providing 17,000 consumers with drinking water.

    Ardekanian added that the government set out a target to put in USD453 million of investment in the industry so as to meet the demand of Iranians.
