Israel to be world's first water desalination dependent by 2022-23
(MENAFN) Israel is aiming to become the first country to completely rely on desalination plants in satisfying the needs of its population drinking water by 2022-2023.
Israel currently generates about 600 million cubic meters of desalinated water, around 70 percent to 80 percent of its tap drinking water demand.
The country was also confirmed to be applying cutting-edge technology in order to provide high-quality drinking water out of the endless Mediterranean seawater through a process known as reverse osmosis.
"Our technology enables us to desalinate the seawater at a low cost with low energy consumption but still to make very pure drinking water," as stated the VP Engineering of Israeli water desalination company IDE Technologies, Jacky Ben Yaish while speaking to Xinhua.
Ben Yaish added "we have desalination plants in China, the United States, Australia and much more countries. We will also desalinate sewage around the world in a high scale as climate change worsens."
