Iraq seeks talks with US over financial deals with Iran

(MENAFN) Iraq was unveiled to be holding talks with the US on an agreement about financial deals secured with Iran.

During a press conference after a weekly cabinet meeting, Iraqi Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi has announced the news of the delegation to be sent to the US following Washington's decision to slap Iran with economic sanctions.

The Iraqi prime minister stressed that "Iran is a neighboring country, and Iraq needs to deal with it in many aspects, including gas and electricity."

Al-Abadi noted that his government established a committee under the chairmanship of the Iraqi Central Bank, aiming to reassess the sanctions re-imposed on Iran and present a transparent vision of Iraq's demands.

He further added that "Iraq is not with economic sanctions against any country, and this is a strategic stand."
