Iran sees sharp drop in oil exports to EU

(MENAFN) Iran was revealed to have recorded a drop in its oil exports to the European Union within the last eighteen months by around 50 percent.

The Financial Tribune daily reported a decline in Iran's oil exports to the EU in August to hit387,000 barrels per day (bpd), compared to the 740,000 bpd registered in March.

The Iranian oil exports to Europe were suggested to have witnessed a fall due to the growing pressures by the US on Iran's international energy partners to cut oil purchases.

Iran has presented Europe with a deadline to find "practical mechanisms" to fulfill its promise to lessen the effect of US economic sanctions on it, Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi stated earlier.

The report cited the minister as saying "we have informed the Europeans in unambiguous terms of our main priority regarding the JCPOA that if the issue of oil exports is not addressed, staying in the nuclear agreement would not be of any benefit for us."
