Lebanese gov't called to grand open budget for investment in tourism

(MENAFN) The Lebanese government reportedly received a request from Caretaker Tourism Minister Avedis Guidanian to grant an open budget specifically for investment in the tourism sector.

The National News Agency cited the Lebanese minister as saying "Egypt, Jordan and Turkey are not more attractive than Lebanon but they know how to promote their touristic attractions."

The minister stressed "what we need in Lebanon is enough budget to promote our tourism sector and attract more tourists to our country."

The statement has been made by Guidanian at a workshop which was carried out at the Economic and Social Council, aiming to tackle difficulties within the tourism sector in Lebanon.

He added that the country received a mere 10 percent boost in the number of tourism arrivals in 2010 compared to this year, even though a sharp change has been seen in tourists spending.
