Morocco posts trade deficit raise to USD13.7b

(MENAFN) Morocco was unveiled to have recorded a boost in its trade deficit to hit USD13.7 billion, up 10.1 percent during the first eight month of 2018.

The deficit increase has mainly been caused by a raise in imports of 10.2-percent, reaching USD31.7 billion after an 18.8 percent raise on energy bill was imposed, as data indicated.

Exports of Morocco have also witnessed a 10.2 percent jump to stand at around USD18 billion, despite being less than imports.

The exports boost was explained to have been driven by a hike in the vehicle industry by 17.7 percent, as well as an increase of 17.6 percent in phosphate and 17.2 percent in aeronautics products.
