    Lebanon's central bank governor calls for fuel price, VAT hikes

    (MENAFN) Al Akhbar newspaper reported a Lebanese official to have suggested a plan to boost the fuel price by 5,000 Lebanese pounds and increase the Value Added Tax (VAT).

    Central Bank Governor Salameh made the proposal with an aim to try and resolve the housing loans crisis which struck Lebanon.

    The report said "Salemeh refused to impose more taxes on the banking sector in a bid to secure funds for housing loans."

    The governor was also reported to have delivered the plan during a meeting with the national economic, trade and industrial parliament committee to explore methods in resolving the crisis.
