Lebanon sets 2019 H2 to begin 1st oil exploration

(MENAFN) Lebanon is set to get underway with its first exploration of oil and gas by the second half of this year, Lebanese caretaker Energy Minister Cesar Abi Khalil announced.

Lebanon Debate cited the Lebanese minister as saying "we are also working on launching the second off-shore licensing round in early 2019."

The minister noted "not to forget that we succeeded in approving the oil and gas transparency law two days ago."

The statement has been made by the minister at this year's edition of International Beirut Energy Forum, which was held to address most recent trends in fields of oil and gas.

Khalil unveiled that the Energy Ministry joined hands with the Lebanese Center for Energy Conservation to explore the potential of raising electricity production using renewable energy with 767 kilotons in 2020 to hit 3,000 kilotons in 2030.

Khalil further added that "this is a very big challenge but it is not bigger than our ambitions."
