    Emirates cancels Dubai-Spain-Mexico route

(MENAFN) Emirates has held back its application to operate flights from Dubai to Mexico through an midway stop in Spain.

Five months ago, CEO of Mexican airline Aeromexico said it was looking into ways to legally prevent Emirates from launching any "fifth freedom" flights to Mexico through a third country, claiming that such a flight would endanger Mexican jobs.

According to an Emirates spokesperson, plans for its Dubai-Mexico route have been cancelled because of a decision by Mexican authorities to only allowing three flights each week.

"Emirates has extended full flexibility in proposing an operating schedule that utilized low demand slots at Mexico City International Airport," the spokesperson added.
