Israel to deploy only natural gas-powered cars by 2030

(MENAFN) Israel reached a decision to launch electric vehicles that are powered by natural gas and take out cars powered with gasoline and diesel by 2030.

Israeli Energy Minister Yuval Steinitz confirmed that the plan would require establishing an initial "critical mass" of vehicles that is to stop relying on gasoline and diesel engines.

Speaking to Reuters, the energy minister stated: "we are already encouraging by funding charging stations, more than 2,000 new charging stations around the country."

The minister added that the government also plans to "reduce taxation on electric cars to almost zero, so they are going to be much cheaper."

The decision is part of a wider strategy to cease Israel's dependence on gasoline, diesel and coal.
