(MENAFN) Kuwait Airways was announced to have inked a deal with Airbus for the acquisition of eight A330-800 aircraft.

The purchase deal is considered as a significant move for the national Kuwaiti carrier to implement its expansion plan.

The carrier is scheduled to receive the new Airbus fleet by the beginning of next year.

Kuwait Airways chairman Yousef Al-Jassim penned the purchase agreement at Airbus headquarters with Airbus Chief Commercial Officer Christian Scherer.

"The A330-800 will seamlessly fit into our fleet expansion and growth plans. Its unbeatable operating economics and performance in addition to best in class passenger comfort make it a sound investment," the chairman stated.

Al-Jassim added "we are confident that the A330-800 will support us to compete effectively on our expanding route network. Our relationship with Airbus extends beyond aircraft acquisitions and we look forward to further collaboration on technical fields."
