Turkey, Azerbaijan strengthen relations in new refinery launch
(MENAFN) Turkey and Azerbaijan have strengthened their relations through the newly launched oil refinery in Ankara.
The statement was made by Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan during the launch of Azeri oil company SOCAR's STAR oil refinery.
The Turkish president stated: "with the STAR Refinery, we further strengthened the strategic dimension of our brotherly relations with Azerbaijan."
The president affirmed that each project Turkey and Azerbaijan jointly launch boosts the image of the two countries as regional leaders.
Erdogan explained that the refinery "aims to save around $1.5 billion every year in imports of petroleum products and to reduce external dependence on petroleum products."
He added "STAR Refinery, the largest investment in a single point in Turkey by the private sector, is one of the largest petroleum operations carried out in recent years in Europe, the Middle East and North Africa."
