Tourism numbers in Egypt jumps 40 percent

(MENAFN) Egypt was unveiled to have recorded a 40 percent surge in its tourism sector from January to September this year, marking a significant rebound in the number of arrivals.

The number of visitors to Egypt was explained to have seen the recovery following a decline which started with the "Arab Spring", witnessing a constant turmoil.

Egyptian tourism minister Rania Al-Mashat affirmed: "we expect that by the end of 2018 we will not be at the levels that we've seen in 2010, but we are approaching that."

Speaking to Bloomberg TV, the tourism minister stressed: "the rebound is quite steep and we're trying to put the industry on a competitive base compared to our peers."

Al-Mashat added that the Egyptian government is seeking to launch a new private equity fund for the boost of hotels, along with new potentials for investment on islands in the Red Sea.
