Jordan eyes hike on Egyptian gas imports

(MENAFN) Jordan was declared to be planning a hike to be imposed on the imports of natural gas from Egypt, aiming to meet a third of demands.

Jordan is expected to see 350 million cubic feet per day of gas demand next year, stated Jordanian minister of energy and mineral resources Hala Zawati.

The minister noted that "Jordan started receiving natural gas from Egypt since September. It's on (an) experimental basis for the pipeline but we hope in the beginning of 2019 to increase these amounts."

The planned hikes on Egyptian imports are to rely on the establishment of a pipeline between Jordan and Iraq.

Zawati added "we have not yet agreed with Egypt. Now there are negotiations on how much will be pumped but we hope at least one third of the country's requirements will be taken from Egypt."
