Iraq, Iran agree to exchange food for gas

(MENAFN) Iran was announced to have reached an agreement to be supplied with food from Iraq in exchange of gas and energy products.

Two Iraqi government officials unveiled Iraq to be making efforts to be granted authorization from the U.S. to import gas products from Iran.

One of the sources revealed that "the American deadline of 45 days to stop importing Iranian gas is not enough at all for Iraq to find an alternative source."

The source added "stopping Iranian gas after the deadline will create a real power crisis. We need more time ... the Americans are completely aware of how desperately we need Iranian gas."

Iraq was confirmed, under the agreement, to be paying "food and humanitarian items for Iran" to be granted Iranian gas.
