    Oman eyes fisheries sector contribution to hit USD1.898b by 2023

    (MENAFN) The Omani Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries is looking to boost the country's fisheries sector and strengthen its economic status.

    Minister of Agriculture and Fisheries Dr Fouad bin Ja'afar Al-Sagwani unveiled the ministry to be targeting USD1.898 billion to be injected in the economy by 2023.

    In a statement delivered to Al Roaya, Al-Sagwani declared the ministry to be aiming for hikes in fish production to stand at 100,00 tons, along with opening 4,000 jobs.

    He added that "the ministry endeavours to increase fishing production to 1.3 million tons and attract RO200 million worth of investment that increases the contribution of fishing sector to the GDP to RO730 million."
