(MENAFN) Saudi Arabia has reportedly set a target to generate renewable energy that registers 60 gigawatts (GW) by 2030.

Saudi King Abdullah Atomic and Renewable Energy City president Dr Khalid bin Saleh Al Sultan unveiled the target, as reported WAM, on the sidelines of a UAE energy event.

The top chief confirmed that "there are plans to integrate the renewable energy network of the Kingdom."

Sultan added: "Saudi Arabia is working, under the framework of the KSA Vision 2030 and the National Transformation 2020 Programme, on building a sustainable renewable energy sector, which includes relevant industries and services, the Saudization of technologies, and training human resources, to find a balanced mix of fossil and alternative energy."
