Morocco surges 8 percent in trade deficit

(MENAFN) Morocco was announced to have registered USD21.4 billion in its trade deficit last year, recording an 8 percent boost.

Such a surge was attributed to a raise by 9.3 percent in Moroccan imports which reached USD50 billion.

The increase was mostly driven by an 18.4 percent jump in energy bill and a 17.6 percent hike in raw materials and 9.4 percent in equipment.

Exports in Morocco also witnessed a 10.2 percent increase, exceeding USD28.6 billion, despite staying less in value compared to imports.
