    Syria, Iran ink long-term economic deal

    (MENAFN) Syria and Iran were announced to have penned an agreement on a long-term cooperation in the field of economy.

    Syrian Prime Minister Emad Khamis made the declaration during a joint news conference with first vice president of Iranian President Hassan Rouhani, Eshaq Jahangiri in Damascus.

    The deal, according to the Syrian prime minister, is "a true historic station for a new kind of cooperation" with Iran.

    The pact achieved between the Syrian government and Iran covers the banking sector and the construction of an electricity production station in Latakia.

    Khamis further confirmed the two sides to have inked contracts aimed at the development of ports in Latakia and Tartus.
