Iraq, Iran ink payment system deal

(MENAFN) Iraq was confirmed to have inked a deal with Iran in regards to a payment system that is assured to defeat challenges Iraq is facing in its debts.

Central Bank of Iran (CBI) Abdolnasser Hemmati penned the agreement with his Iraqi counterpart Ali Mohsen Al-Allaq Tuesday night.

Under the pact, a system will be introduced on easing the payment of electricity and gas bills Iraq is indebted to Iran.

The contract will also be opening more opportunities for Iraqi and Iranian businesses to engage in common dealings.

The document was signed in Iraq, where Hemmati is set to enter negotiations with several top Iraqi political and economic figures.
