Jordan sees no agricultural advantage in Syria border operation

(MENAFN) Analysts suggested that Jordan is not witnessing any advantage in its agricultural sector in the re-opening of the border crossing with Syria.

Head of Jordan Valley Farmers Union Adnan Khaddam revealed that since the border was re-operated last October, Jordan is yet to export any fruits or vegetables to Syria.

Speaking to Xinhua, the union's head noted "we thought the reopening of the borders will be a win-win situation. But obviously it is not, as the Syrian farmers benefited more. The continuation of this situation means more losses to Jordanian farmers."

Khaddam added "we will lose more in the summer when their produce is exported to the Gulf states and this means they are competing with our farmers who lost millions of dinars over the past years."
