Yemeni food imports see significant decline

(MENAFN) Yemen witnessed a decline in its food imports while the country is suffering from a deteriorated currency and growing inflation.

This worsening economic condition caused millions of people to lose their jobs, with the Yemeni infrastructure, health system, highways and airports slapped with a significant impact.

Food imports registered a 60 percent plunge compared to figures seen before the eruption of war, and falling to less than a half last year.

Foreign trade deputy Bassam Al-Gharbani revealed that "Yemen's food and commercial imports have dropped to 6.94 billion U.S. dollars in 2018 compared to 14.76 billion U.S. dollars in 2014."
