Lebanon passes plan to improve power sector

(MENAFN) A new map designed to settle electricity challenges was passed by the Lebanese government, with an aim to extend Lebanon with 24 hours of electricity.

Prime Minister Saad Hariri confirmed "the electricity plan is an achievement for all political parties and no one will obstruct it."

Under the new plan, Lebanon will see cuts on Electricite Du Liban (EDL) losses to stand at 11 percent from 34 percent while imposing a hike on power tariff and connecting it to oil prices to avoid any deficit.

Lebanon will also use the plan to start providing a production capacity of 3,500 MW by next year for 24 hours of electricity.
