Iraq reviews Siemens power renovation proposal

(MENAFN) Iraqi electricity minister Luay Al Khateeb confirmed the country to be assessing a plan Siemens presented to reform the Iraqi power infrastructure.

Germany's automation giant handed over in 2018 a plan to raise electricity capacity by 11GW in Iraq, under a USD15 billion agreement for power infrastructure renovations.

Siemens and U.S-based GE proposed for Iraq to renovate its utilities sector, while GE vowed to add 14GW in power capacity.

Al Khateeb stated "we have a good and equal and balanced relationship with all countries who are willing to support Iraq but I must admit that Siemens roadmap to Iraq is quite helpful because it looks at the cross sector from transmission, distribution and power generation to build that much-needed value chain to help Iraq move its power sector in the right direction."
