Egypt locks 14.1 percent in annual inflation

(MENAFN) Egypt's Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics (CAPMAS) announced a boost in the annual urban consumer price inflation of the country during the fifth month of the year.

In May 2019, Egyptian annual inflation climbed to stand at 14.1 percent, compared to the 13 percent of inflation registered in April 2019.

CAPMAS revealed that "the annual inflation rose to 13.2 percent in May year on year from 11.2 percent in the same month in 2018."

This boost, it explained, is driven by an 18.1 percent jump imposed in fruit prices as well as a 3.6 percent surge in beef prices and a 5.5 percent increase in medical equipment prices.
