Jordan: 20 percent electricity likely from renewables in 1 year

(MENAFN) Jordan is forecast in a one-year period to see 20 percent of its electricity production coming from renewable energy.

Energy Minister Hala Zawati noted that so far, electricity generation from renewable energy in Jordan is at 11 percent.

According to the energy minister, Jordan imports 92 percent of its energy needs with a total annual value of JD3 billion, accounting for 10 percent of its GDP.

Zawati added that the figure marks a great burden to the national economy since stakeholders of securing power provision are responsible for guaranteeing that the Kingdom steers clear of threats related to power resources reductions.
