Pay-per-use data plans suspended by Etisalat, du

(MENAFN) Etisalat and du, telecom giants in the UAE, received an order to halt all operations in pay-per-use data plans if clients refused to request the service clearly.

UAE's Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (TRA) issued the order with an aim to avoid excessive bills for customers.

TRA is looking through the decision to "protect subscribers" from "high charges" since the service was activated in the past automatically once a customer inserted a "SIM card in the mobile device, causing increase of charges and loss of balance."

This move indicates TRA's "keenness to achieve customers' happiness by implementing the best international standards on the services provided by the licensees in the country, providing the best services and the highest quality, and giving the subscribers more freedom and flexibility in choosing the services they desire," stated director general Hamad Al Mansoori.
