Sudan granted wheat shipment from UAE, KSA

(MENAFN) Sudan is receiving 540,000 tons of wheat from Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) for a three-month period as the country looks for its basic food demands to be met.

WAM cited a statement the Abu Dhabi Fund for Development (ADFD) issued: "the first two batches of 140,000 tons of wheat have already been shipped."

Director-General of ADFD Mohammed Saif Al Suwaidi stated: "both countries are keen to provide all possible support to Sudan to overcome difficult conditions and achieve economic stability and food security."

This comes as part of a USD3 billion aid package that the UAE and Saudi Arabia pledged in support of the Sudanese economy and stability.
