Carbonated drinks consumption in Oman declines

(MENAFN) Over a two-month period, Oman registered a decline in its carbonated drinks consumption following the implementation of sin tax.

It comes as Oman slapped a tax by 50 percent on aerated and energy drinks, alongside its GCC neighbors.

Those drinks have decreased significantly in Muscat, as guaranteed sellers and consumers with a cafeteria attendant saying: "there has been a 50 per cent drop in those buying sodas and other aerated drinks from my shop."

Sin tax proved to be efficient amid sales plunges as it pushed people to start consuming healthy products, such as juice.
