USD81b oil, gas losses in Syria over 8 years

(MENAFN) Oil Minister of Syria Ali Ghanem revealed the country to have suffered USD81 billion of direct and indirect losses over the past eight years since the crisis erupted.

Syria is registering 17.8 million cubic meters of gas per day with an extra 24,500 oil barrels, the oil minister unveiled during a parliament session.

According to the minister, Syria requires 136,000 oil barrels per day, saying that Western sanctions prevented the country from acquiring the needed oil quantity.

Ghanem further added that the country launched the operation of forty-four gas wells, fueling a hike in output capacity to stand at 7.9 million cubic meters of gas per day.
