Egypt cuts fuel prices by 3 percent

(MENAFN) Prices of fuel in Egypt witnessed a 25 piasters, or 3 percent decline to mark the first move of such kind to be witnessed in around a decade.

Egypt is currently working on connecting energy prices to international markets, with citizens hailing the decision with an aspiration for more slashes.

Mission Chief for Egypt of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) Subir Lall applauded the decision, saying that it comes in line with the automatic pricing mechanism.

Under the mechanism, Lall explained, prices of several fuel products could be subject to hikes or cuts every three months under international oil prices.
