Block 5A oil production to recommence in S. Sudan

(MENAFN) Petroleum Minister of South Sudan Awow Daniel Chuang announced the country to be planning to recommence its output of oil within Block 5A.

Currently, 178,000 barrels of crude oil are produced in Block 5A with South Sudan setting a target to inject over 15,000 barrels to the current capacity, the petroleum minister unveiled.

Looking to re-launch production in Tharzat and Mala oilfields, a deal between South Sudan and Sudan offers the only transport route for Juba's oil to the export market.

Minister Chuang stated "the challenge of Block 5A was actually being cut by Sudan because of the quality of crude oil that does not fit the Khartoum refinery. But we have reached an agreement with Sudan for us to introduce up to 15,000 per day."

Chuang added "we are now moving very fast. Before the end of the year, we should have people on the ground in which we are going to produce not less than 15,000 barrels per day."
