DEWA receives nine bidders for Dubai desalination plant contract

(MENAFN) Nine bidders are set to compete for a contract to develop a 120 million gallons a day desalination plant in Dubai.

Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) said it has issued a request for proposal to nine qualified bidders for the Hassyan plant. This is the first water desalination project that DEWA has started that uses the independent water producer (IWP) model.

DEWA said it has adopted IWP for the plant; following the success of the IPP model at the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park projects.

A statement said the project is expected to start operations in 2023 and will provide a sustainable supply for DEWA's water network.
