Economic losses in Gaza grow to USD100m

(MENAFN) On Friday, a Palestinian committee revealed a weakening economic condition within the Gaza Strip as its monthly loss hit USD33 million.

Chairman of the Popular Committee to Challenge the Israeli Siege Jamal al-Khudari stressed that "the crises of the economic sector are directly caused by the Israeli siege imposed on the coastal enclave since 2007."

Al-Khudari affirmed "4,000 factories, workshops, shops and companies have closed or shrunk by more than 80 percent of their operational capacity during the years of the Israeli siege."

He further added that firms, shops, factories, and economic facilities still active in the Gaza Strip are working with under 50 percent of their normal capacity to lead a boost in poverty and unemployment levels.
