Syria inks water development deal with Iran

(MENAFN) Syria was revealed to have secured a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with Iran in support of the country's plan to develop and rehabilitate its water and wastewater networks.

Reports confirmed that the agreement was penned on the sidelines of the UNESCO Regional Centre on Urban Water Management (RCUWM) meeting by Syrian Water Resources Minister Hussein Arnous and Iranian Energy Minister Reza Ardakanian.

Under the agreement, the two sides will be deciding on the framework of collaboration when it comes to the water and wastewater spheres, along with coming up with a roadmap dedicated for Iranian firms operating in Syria.

The deal is expected to achieve a mechanism for Iranian firms to contribute in projects to establish dams, hydropower plants and water and wastewater treatment plants in Syria, as stated Ardakanian.
