New decision to reduce tax on basic commodities in Jordan

(MENAFN) Sales tax imposed on 76 basic and food commodities will be reduced in half, as of February 1, 2020, according to Prime Minister Omar Razzaz on Sunday in a cabinet gathering.

The decision of the reduction came after the government's vow in the deliberations of the draft laws of the state budget and budgets of government units last week.

The sales tax on supplies that were subject to a tax rate (4 percent) will be decreased to 2 percent, while the tax on goods that were subject to a tax rate (10 percent) will be decreased to 5 percent.

The decision included basic goods like milk and cheese, kinds of vegetables and fruits, school supplies, stationery, cereals and other foodstuffs.
