Iran: monthly usage of compressed natural gas drops

(MENAFN) During the last month of the past Iranian calendar year, monthly usage of compressed natural gas (CNG) has decreased 15 percent in Iran, in comparison with its preceding month.

CNG usage has grown in Iran after the execution of the gasoline rationing plan in mid-November 2019, when the government rose fuel prices as it plans to use the income for helping underprivileged families.

CNG usage in Iran had jumped by 10 percent only two weeks after the beginning of the program, according to Hassan Qolipour, the head of the CNG promotion program at the National Iranian Oil Product Distribution Company (NIOPDC).

Proceeds from the price increases would be used to support additional subsidies for 18 million underprivileged families, as said on November 12 by Mohammad Baqer Nobakht, head of the Planning and Budget Organization (PBO).
