Lebanon witnesses lack in imported food products

(MENAFN) According to local experts, Lebanon may see a lack in imported food products during the next months.

Attributed a possible lack in imported products to the outbreak of coronavirus in food producing countries which have reduced their production activities, as said by Hani Bohsali, head of the Syndicate of Food Importers in Lebanon.

Bohsali said that, the reduction of production has in turn prompted those countries to lessen their exporting activities while keeping their products for local usage.

He added that, "if the virus spread does not slow down and the situation remains the same in three months, then we may witness a crisis in the import of basic foodstuffs; Lebanon imports around 80 percent of its food demand".
