15 banks in Turkey fined USD2.84 million

    (MENAFN)

The banking watchdog of Turkey said on Friday that 15 banks across the country have been fined with around USD2.84 million.

According to the Banking Regulation and Supervision Agency (BRSA) on Friday, the banks have been fined a total of USD2.84 million due to transactions that did not follow the new rules that were put to handle the economic tumble due to the coronavirus effects.

The BRSA did not name the banks facing the fines, however, it released a statement saying that the penalties have been imposed after complaints from clients in the banks and the inquiry remains ongoing.

Sources familiar with the issue said that the watchdog has plans to bring attention to unfair banking practices during the economic fallout due to the coronavirus effects.
