Turkish airports witness 33.7m air travelers

    (MENAFN)

The number of air passengers in Turkey this January-May -including transit passengers- made 33.7 million, according to the country's airport authority.

The five-month statistics slipped 54.7 percent from the same period in 2020, the General Directorate of State Airports Authority (DHMI) said on Monday, June 8th.

The decrease derived from international coronavirus-related travel restrictions.

Internal passenger numbers minimized 51.7 percent to 19.5 million, while 14.2 million passengers took international flights, down 58 percent, during the same period.

Turkish airports served 408,483 planes as overflights in the first five months of this year, down from 755,171 in January-May 2019.

The report also stated that cargo traffic came into 922,610 tons in the first five months of 2020.
