    Turkey announces 16.7-percent decline in retail sales

    (MENAFN) Based on the most recent data compiled on Monday by the Turkish statistical authority, the country's retail sales capacity decreased annually by 16.7 percent in May, with the figure represented the third successive monthly reduction, owing to the ongoing consequences of COVID19 pandemic.

    During the same month, a three-percent jump was noticed in food, drinks and tobacco sales, whereas non-food, excluding automotive fuel, fell by 25.5 percent in the same period, the TurkStat's official data revealed, it also showed that automotive fuel sales also decreased by 22.6 percent in May.

    It further included that the volume of clothing, textile, and footwear sales saw an annual 58.9-percent decline, which acted as the highest among non-food items.

    It was followed by computers, books and telecommunication equipment sales, which fell by 28.4 percent and medical goods and cosmetic sales, down 10.9 percent compared to last May.
