    US reimposes sanction waiver allowing Iraq to import Iranian gas, electricity

    (MENAFN)On Monday, according to AFP, an Iraqi official stated that, the US has converted a sanction waiver permitting Iraq to import Iranian gas and electricity for another three months.

    After President Donald Trump extracted Washington from world powers’ 2015 nuclear deal with the Islamic Republic, the waiver to except Iraq from U.S. sanctions reemployed on Iran in November 2018.

    AFP state that an official with no personal information, declared that, the new exception, which is longer than past extensions, was granted after “long discussions”.

    Washington has frequently extended the waiver for Baghdad to utilize crucial Iranian energy supplies for its struggling power grid.
