Iran: Maritime transportation by IRISL fleet increases 43 percent
(MENAFN)During the first five months of the current Iranian year, maritime transportation led by IRISL fleet rosee by 43 percent in comparison to the previous year same time span, according to Head of Islamic Republic of Iran Shipping Lines (IRISL) Mohammadreza Modares Khiabani.
Modares Khiabani further declared that “During the first five months of the current year, the revenue from foreign maritime transportation reached about USD431 million to register a 100-percent growth compared to the same period of the previous year.”
Sanctions restrictions accompanied by the outbreak of coronavirus pandemic had a negative effect on the country’s shipping performance in the previous Iranian year, Khiabani added.
Moreover; the official said that the sanctions are a devastating factor in the way of IRISL activities, adding, "sanctions have made it difficult for us to supply parts for the vessels and also have significantly increased insurance costs."
