Iraq urges Iran to raise its import to nation
(MENAFN) Iraqi electricity ministry has declared that after the finishing of the nation’s energy debts to Iran, Baghdad is now thinking about increasing gas imports from Iran.
The Representative for the Iraqi Electricity Ministry Ahmed Mousa stated to media sources that Iraq right now receives 40 million cubic meters of Iranian gas a day but the nation wants to import 50 to 55 million cubic meters of gas a day to reach its electricity requirements.
Mousa also stated that "The Ministry of Electricity is trying to increase its daily production to 24,000 MW, and this depends on increasing Iran's gas exports from 40 million cubic meters to 50 to 55 million cubic meters per day."
Iraqi Electricity Minister Adel Karim lately stated in a press meeting in Karbala that Iran has accepted to ship 50 million cubic meters of gas to Iraq a day for four months, beginning from summer.
He added that "Iraq will import between 10 to 20 million cubic meters of gas per day from Iran in winter."
